Clubs & Societies

Catsfield Football Club

Catsfield FC was formed in 1906 and was at the heart of the village until it folded in 1997. Thankfully the club was reformed in 2001 under the watchful eyes of Mike Davey, Martin Gurr, Andy Gurr and Scott Lavocah. They won the division 7 title in their first season back and came runners up in the JCF Jewellery Challenge Cup final.  The club then went on a steady rise through the East Sussex League, peaking in Division one and winning a number of cup competitions along the way. In recent times Catsfield achieved success with a cup double in the 2023/24 season.

Catsfield are now under the stewardship of brothers Adam & Tom Barham in East Sussex Division two. They are always looking for new players from the local area. If you are interested please contact David via catsfieldfc@hotmail.com

Catsfield Stoolball Club

The game of stoolball, more than 500 years old, is the forerunner of the modern game of cricket. The modern rules of stoolball were consolidated at a meeting at Glynde in East Sussex in 1881. Until the introduction of secondary schools, Catsfield C of E Primary School taught children until the age of 14 so stoolball was one of the sports played.

Nowadays we have both ladies and mixed teams, playing on Tuesday and Thursday evenings throughout the summer and at local tournaments on some Sundays.

Contact can be made through their Facebook page or by contacting Scott Lavocah at catsfieldstoolball@gmail.com

Catsfield W.I.

Catsfield Women’s Institute was formed in 1918 just a short time after the national organisation was started.  We have been meeting  ever since and are proud of following in the footsteps of enlightened Catsfield residents such as Lady Brassey of Normanhurst.  We have 38 members, some from our village but are delighted to be joined by members from surrounding villages and towns.  We meet eleven times a year in the Village Hall on the first Thursday of the month commencing at 2pm.  Our yearly programme consists of professional and amateur speakers on a variety of subjects, including music and crafts.  Each meeting has a short item of official business, followed by the entertainment and we always have a superb afternoon tea made by a rota of our members.  Members are encouraged to take advantage of all the benefits provided by the National and East Sussex Federation, including live events and lots of on-line courses.  In addition to this we play an active part in village events such as providing the teas for our annual fete.  We welcome new members, please look at the village notice board, contact one of the six Committee members or just come along to one of our meetings.  We look forward to seeing you.

Catsfield Social Club

Catsfield Social Club takes place in the village hall on a Wednesday evening, 7pm – 10pm. It includes a variety of board games, a Wii, table tennis and tea and biscuits. All for an incredible £2 an evening. The social club is run by Janet Woolf who can be contacted via 01424 892139 or janetwoolf55@aol.com.

Catsfield History Group

We are a small group which meet fortnightly in a room on the first floor of the village hall.  The group was formed as part of the village millennium celebrations to set up a history of the village.  At that time, we were led by an archivist from a local museum who advised us how to compile, store and maintain the village records.  On behalf of residents, we continue to hold and maintain a large number of pictures, photographs, articles and other items relating to the parish of Catsfield.   Members of the group can be contacted by email catsfieldarchivegroup@hotmail.com

Catsfield Wombles

The Catsfield Wombles are a group of local people who litter pick the local Village area every couple of months. Any age or ability welcome, although primarily it is an 18+ group. The group provide the necessary equipment, and volunteers can do as much or as little as they wish. The group is insured, and volunteer safety is a priority therefore they stick to a risk assessment for the activity. It is a rewarding pastime and makes a real impact to the local community.  It is a great way to meet friends and get to know your neighbours. The announcements for upcoming litter pick details are placed on the local village Facebook Page.  Contact with the group can be made either via the Clerk or through responding to the Facebook posts.
